It all started when…

Several things led me on this Puras Paletas journey: The desire to have a healthy treat option for my kids, my husband’s Costa Rican roots, and my appreciation for local and organic food.

During the summer months when my friends and I were at the playgrounds with our children, we’d dread the sound of the ice cream truck coming by. This was because we knew that everything that truck had to offer our children would have some type of undesirable chemical, food coloring, or dairy we didn’t know the source of. Having a child with food dye sensitivities and GI issues, this was something that always made me cringe. Nonetheless, I would give in and purchase the frozen treat because it was supposedly “just this one time”. Was I happy with my decision? No, but I didn’t want my children to feel left out. I knew there had to be something better out there, but couldn’t find it. So I decided to make whole fruit ice pops for my kids at home out of fresh, real, natural ingredients. My kids went crazy for them! My mom friends enjoyed them too! And most importantly, I felt confident knowing that what I was offering to my children and friends, was something that was actually a healthy choice for a frozen treat!

It became clear that I needed to figure out a way to share these ice pops with my community. The values I hold close to my heart, guide my recipes— such as using organic produce whenever possible, sourcing from local farms, and by using Fair Trade ingredients when applicable.

The name Puras Paletas (pure pops) stems from a beautiful phrase that Costa Rican’s use throughout the country. “Pura vida” pronounced POO-rah VEE-dah means “pure life” but these two words have much more meaning throughout the Costa Rican culture. We aspire to reflect that integrity in every one of our products, and in every interaction with our customers.

From our Family to yours,

Pura Vida!
